Buddha Jayanti celebrations at Maha Bodhi Society, Bangalore

The 2561st Buddha Jayanti celebration was celebrated at Maha Bodhi Society, Bangalore and also at its branches. Like every year a week long Bodhi Saptaha, an intensive Enlightenment Spiritual week were observed from May 4th to 10th May 2017 commemorating the three great events of the Lord Buddha’s life: his birth, enlightenment, and mahaparinibbana.

During this spritual week medical services for the needy were organised at various hospitals, Orphan children were served in the orphanage marking the day as children service day and animals and birds were feed marking the day as Animal welfare day showing kindness and love to all living creature. A one day children moral education camp was conducted imparting them with Buddhist ethics and meditation. Apart from this noble Dhamma programs One day Buddha Dhamma seminar was organised on the theme Dhamma – The path to happiness.

The holy Buddha purnima the sacred full-moon day of vesakh fell on the 10th of May 2017 wherein the three great events happened was celebrated with spiritual fervour, faith and enthusiasm by hundreds and thousands of devotees gathered at Maha Bodhi Buddha vihara. Devotees nor only from Bengaluru but also from other District of Karmataka and other states  from other states faithfully participated in large number to offer prayer and pay respect to the supremely Enlightened the lord Buddha.

Universal peace walk was organised from Town Hall to Maha Bodhi Society to spread the Buddha’s message of love and compassion. Sanghadana (Offering to the monks) to the monks by devotees, group Buddha chanting were offered on the occasion for world peace. Panca sil and Attha sil were observed by the Upasakas Upasikas. Dhamma talks and meditation were organised for spiritual progress as part of Dhamma program. In the noon His Excellency the honourable Governor Sri Vajubhai Vala graced the Buddha purnima occasion at gave Vesakh greetings to thousands of spiritual path seekers gathered on the occasion. Many Dhamma book publications in English kannada and Telugu were released by the Hon’ble Guests. Dhamma deeksha were initiated to new Buddhist with an introduction to Buddhist path.

In the evening, over the entire campus, 1000 lamps were lit up to dispel the ignorance and raise wisdom in every being. Under the sacred Bodhi tree (tree of Enlightenment), amidst hundreds of monks and devotees evening special prayers, Dhamma discourse, and group meditation sitting was held together, in a divinely blissful atmosphere. The devotees were blessed by the Bhantes and the program ended with the chanting of metta – for Best wishes of all well being.
