International Conference on Buddhist Women celebrates contemporary Buddhist women globally

The 15th conference of the Sakyadhita International Association of Buddhist Women began at the University of Hong Kong on June 22, 2017. The seven-day event (June 22-28, 2017) would witness discussions on the theme of “Contemporary Buddhist Women: Contemplation, Cultural Exchange and Social Action”, highlighting the diversity of contemporary Buddhist women throughout the world.

The conference aims to bring together scholars, monastics (both nuns and monks), and members of the public to focus on the interests and needs of Buddhist women globally.

Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo, President of Sakyadhita and Chairwoman of the conference, stated that she hopes the event would be able to “serve as a bridge strengthening the connection between East and West, with Hong Kong serving as a gateway to greater China.”
