‘Sri Siddhartha Gautama’ releasing in Maharashtra on October 14


‘Sri Siddhartha Gautama’ is a Sinhalese film directed by Saman Weeraman. It stars Gagan Malik and Anchal Singh as Siddhartha and Yasodhara, respectively, along with Gautam Gulati in the role of Prince Devadatta.

The film was released in Sri Lanka on 24 January 2013, and is now set to release in Maharashtra on October 14, 2016. The state government has already declared it as tax-free.

Produced by The Light of Asia Foundation, the film received five of the eight awards presented at 2014 UN Vesak Buddhist Film festival in Hanoi, Vietnam including the Best Featured film, Best Actor award, Best Director award, Best Editor award and Best Music award.

Beautifully shot with elaborate sets, exquisite locations within Sri Lanka, the sets were stated to have been built across 9 acres of land in 72 days under the supervision of Chief Architect Roshan Chandrarathne and Chief Archaeologist Basanta Bidari. They made 124 designs of the set before the final approval. Not only the sets were larger than life, costumes were mind boggling too. More than 2000 costumes were made.
